So we're going to talk about hockey stops on roller skates. Hockey stops are when both of your feet turn in the same direction, and your hips flick out a little bit, and you come to a complete stop. Hockey stops are great for, again, roller derby, or session skating, jam skating, and it's really important if you are going to do street skating, so that you can stop on a dime, basically.

So with a hockey stop, you want to keep your shoulders square, straight ahead, hips down, and your core engaged. When you're skating forward, you're going to bend like you're sitting in a chair, and as you turn you're going to put all of your weight turning to the left-hand side, all of your weight to the left, and as you turn, both toes turn at the same time, your weight is to the back, and then you flick your hip forward just a little bit, still trying to keep your shoulders square in front of you, so that's the direction that you still go. Always keep your eyes where you're going, because you need to see where you're going.

So this is what a hockey stop looks like. So skating, bending, bend, and turn, so you want to stop in a real small area, and same thing going the other direction, skating, knees bent, bend, and turn. The faster you go, the more you'll slide, but it's real important to give that little hip flick in there right at the end.

And that is a hockey stop.
