RETAINER FEE - How much Money Should You Get Up Front? // Now that you watched my previous video about the retainer agreement/retainer contract, often referred to as an interior design agreement, now we need to discuss the retainer payment.

Part of any successful interior design business plan will include details of an interior design contract and/or retainer fee agreement. Understanding what is a retainer fee and collecting this at the same time as signing the client retainer agreement, is imperative.

In this video I will share with you why reviewing a contract, signing an agreement & collecting the interior design retainer should be non-negotiable before commencing interior design services. I will also provide guidance on how much you should collect when proposing your retainer agreement or your interior design client contract.

If you aren’t sure how to write an agreement, see the links below to my Letter of Agreement (My LOA of which there are two - one for flat fee and one for hourly) and you can use it as a template for creating your own. Note that my LOA is a one page document that is meant to take clients from the initial consultation meeting to phase 1 of design services. Another interior design contract agreement is required, reviewed and signed before Phase 2, the implementation stage.
