Before I go any further, 1. he’s just skating and that's okay. Two: yes, Demko is better than I ever was. 3. I make these videos not to critique NHL guys but to help young (and old) goalies learn.

Had to get that out of the way early because whenever I critique an NHL goalie I get a bunch of comments and messages telling me I’m jealous.

I actually could care less about which goalie I’m talking about. I don’t play goalie anymore. I train athletes, coach goalies and study to be a doctor of PT.

Anyways, when I find too many goalies either don’t know, or struggle to enter the RVH from a butterfly overlap.

To be fair, it is probably the hardest skating movement a goalie has to do.

Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. It means you need to work on it until you can do it correctly.

There’s no taking shortcuts in this game if you want to play at a high level.

Listen to the video for the break down. There is a longer, more detailed version on my youtube that also comes with a drill to help you practice this transition.

Just youtube Jamie Phillips, it should pop up
