Hello GT Harmonica Patreon members! I’m excited to welcome you back with the first part of our lesson series on "Angeline the Baker," a timeless old-time fiddle tune with a rich and somewhat controversial history due to its origins in the minstrel tradition. Composed by Stephen Foster in 1850, this tune remains a beloved classic that we can appreciate while recognising its historical context.

"Angeline the Baker" is often played at old-time jams in the keys of D, G and occasionally C, following an AABB format. Similar to other staple tunes like "Soldier's Joy" and "Turkey in the Straw," it has captured the hearts of musicians for generations and is a must-know for any harmonica player looking to join in on old-time jams.

In this initial video, we'll delve into the basics of the melody and basic chording to lay a solid foundation in the lower octave. This will give you a great start in mastering the melody and rhythm of "Angeline the Baker."
