Last night at Massey Hall in Toronto was absolutely epic. To be a part of the legend, Mr. Buddy Guy 's "Damn Right Farewell" tour is one of the greatest honors of my career. He's as big an influence on me as anyone and has influenced everyone that picks up a guitar and bends a note. From Jimi Hendrix to Jimmie/Stevie Ray Vaughan through to the present, he is the guy and if you're a Fender Stratocaster player, he's probably one of the reasons for that too. He's just the greatest, it's that simple.
To make him smile then react favorably to the very kind of playing he inspired me to do was awesome and I'll never forget it. To do that while playing through one of his own Fender Bassman amplifiers was just amazing. It also goes to prove that even when you are playing through his rig, you're never gonna be Buddy Guy, you're still gonna sound like yourself. That kind of affirmation is priceless and encouraging as it gets.
Thanks to Buddy, and Tom Hambridge (who did a fantastic job opening the show and playing drums for Buddy) for this opportunity and all of you for your continued support of my music and radio station. It was also great to play with Buddy's son Greg Guy, Ric Jaz, Orlando Wright and his new keyboardist Dan Souvigny (who was amazing btw!).
Also big thanks to my GF Erica who took most of the video here. I was happy she was there to experience this with me. She had been up since 5:30 am, worked and then did all the hang with me, including the drive back; didn't get home til 1 am and had to be on patrol at 6 am😳👮‍♀️🚔😘. Wow! Like Tom said, what a trooper, no pun intended. Love her.
