What does one ask a living legend? Someone who saw firsthand that age of Camelot when Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was alive and performing?
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan left us too soon. We all are still listening to his compositions. I see youth who were born after Khan sahib’s death swaying to his qawwalis. And that makes my heart happy and a little sad that such a giant is no longer amongst us. But Dildar sahib is alive and well (thank God!) and with his sons, is carrying on the legacy of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In this interview, I got the rare opportunity to ask Dildar sahib about the time of Camelot and to probe the process used by the NFAK troupe to compose and perform such memorable qawwali.
