In this presentation, Diana Folsom, Director of Digital Collections at the Gilcrease Museum of the University of Tulsa; Jeri Redcorn, Caddo ceramic artist at the Oklahoma City Metro Caddo Cultural Club; Ann Early, State Archeologist from the Arkansas Archeological Survey at University of Arkansas; and Holly Witchey, Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University and John Hopkins University, discuss the processes, challenges and solutions of the IMLS-funded project: Native Artists and Scholars Bring Past to Present: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives for Mississippian Culture Pottery. The presentation slides show how Native artists from three tribes and an archeologist worked from home to add tags, search terms and comments for collection items using the Distance Cataloguing Interface (DCI). The Caddo Native artist, Jeri Redcorn, is developing a new vocabulary, using this tool, to honor Caddo heritage. This session was part of the ATALM annual conference held in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, on October 10-13, 2017.
