After the elevators in a New York City high-rise start malfunctioning mysteriously, endangering the passengers, mechanic Mark Newman (James Marshall) and journalist Jennifer Evans (Naomi Watts) launch independent investigations. Newman faces pushback from his higher-ups at the company that produced the elevators, while more elevator mishaps result in several horrifying fatalities. The police step in, suspecting terrorist activity, but an even more bizarre explanation lies ahead.
