The poem is an excerpt from Pope's MOCK HEROIC EPIC 'THE RAPE OF THE LOCK' published in 1712. It is written in heroic couplets which is a closed couplet in the lines of Iambic pentameter. It is bitter satire on the Aristocratic fashionable woman society of 18 century England. It portrays the follies and foibles of morally barren, hippocratic and spiritually corrupt society. The poem portrays the whole procedure of getting ready of Belinda for an outside adventure like a warrior going on a war.
