Mahler’s music has appeared in countless films over the years, but his most important legacy in his profound influence on cinema is probably to be heard in the film scores of the composers of the following generations from pioneers like Steiner, Waxman, and Korngold to modern masters like John Williams who turned to Mahler for inspiration. This program seeks to illuminate the ways in which Mahler’s legacy has been spread through the media of film.
