The UJOH 2023 Spring-Summer collection represents the strength felt in the unevenness of human craftsmanship. The nuances instilled by skilled craftsmen and artists add depth to the clean designs that are the brand’s forte. Each item born through the cross-fertilization of these sensibilities allows viewers to sense the presence of the creators behind them. The collection features a jewelry line created in collaboration with jewelry designer Shota Mino, hand-painted prints by paint artist Kanako Sasaki, handmade washi paper from Echizen-Fukui, and foil-pressed silk crepe from Kyoto. These powerful handicrafts inject new nuances into the style of clothing that UJOH aims to create.

Jewelry appearing for the first time this season is handcrafted and accents the collection with the brand’s initials and organic forms inspired by fish bones and fungal life forms. The “hands” used in clips and brooches are the season’s theme, and are also a motif that the designer, a former pattern maker, views all day long as he creates. In addition, the hand-painted prints give a powerful yet airy impression through unexpected blotches, blurs, and bold color schemes.

Accents created by handicrafts also characterize the materials used this season. The collection incorporates carefully-selected unique materials, such as washer-processed wool poplin, floral patterns expressed using Echizen washi paper, metallic copper prints that take advantage of the unevenness of silk crepe fabric, and more.

The collection’s silhouettes feature frills and gathered holes that can be freely adjusted using drawcords. Camisoles and skirts with asymmetrical cuts created using three-dimensional cutting techniques are presented as key items. For men, short mess jackets and cropped blousons, as well as shirts with cords peeking out from the sides evoke fresh stylings.

This season, UJOH presents a new color palette, incorporating metallic copper with its signature colors, such as black and olive gray. The brand also adds strong colors like orange and fuchsia pink to bring together the prints and unique materials.
