Authentic Assamese Food:
Poita bhat is a famous food of Assam specially for summer. It is prepared by soaking rice (normally left over rice) overnight. It is normally eaten in morning as breakfast. There are many variations of this dish, however basic ingredient is same i.e. old rice. Poita bhat with slight variation, is very common in other Indian states as well. Pakhala bhat, Panta Bhat, Pazhedhu saadham are similar dishes consumed in other parts of the country. This dish is very popular in rural areas. However, it is not restricted to farmers only, but very popular among many other families of urban areas also. In a study conducted by agricultural biotechnology department of the Assam Agricultural University, it was concluded that paita bhat has many nutritional and remedial values.
