Wednesday, 16 October 2024 – Ten days before the Queensland election, Premier Steven Miles MP and Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli MP faced off in a lively debate at the Queensland Media Club (QMC). Both leaders outlined their platforms, questioned each other and responded to queries from the media gallery. Moderated by 7 News State Political Reporter, Marlina Whop, the event provided valuable insights ahead of the 2024 Queensland State Election.

12 – MEDIA Q&A SESSION: (Marlina Whop – 7 News) How willing are you both to take more risks on the road in these final 10 days? And if so, what would that look like?

50 – (Tim Arvier – 9 News) In the first debate, you said you would stand down if crime victim numbers didn’t go down. Will you also stake your leadership on no changes to abortion law?

53 – (James Hall – Australian Financial Review) How much emphasis will you both put into improving the State’s debt position? Or can voters expect ‘election sweeteners’ to be permanently baked into the bottom line of the budget?

50 – (Hayden Johnson – The Courier Mail) Will you both commit today, for the last week and a half of the campaign, to a facts based raced and calling out the scare campaigns?

35 – (Lydia Lynch – The Australian) Mr Crisafulli, is the reason why you’re running such a small target campaign because, and I’m quoting you here, you believe you’re going to win, and win big?

36 – (Alison Paterson – Queensland Country Life) What do you feel the biggest challenges are facing primary producers across Queensland? And should you attain, or regain power after the election, how would you work to solve these?

05 – (Jack McKay – ABC News) Mr Crisafulli, will you repeal the ban on property developer donations if you win this election? And will you seek to make any other changes to the State’s political donations laws?

10 – (Brendan Smith – 10 News First) Mr Crisafulli, where would you want to see track and field held for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games?

36 – (Savannah Meacham – Australian Associated Press [AAP]) Do you both believe that you’ve been able to step out of the shadow of your predecessor and former Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Campbell Newman?

07 – (Andrew Messenger – The Guardian) I’m looking for a yes or no answer to this – are house prices too high? Do you want them to go down or up?

59 – (Andrew Messenger – The Guardian) If lots have gone down, do you want lot approvals to go back up? By definition, that means urban sprawl, doesn’t it?

23 – (Matt Dennien – Brisbane Times) Mr Crisafulli, it was almost a year ago to the day that you said the LNP would no longer support the State’s ‘Path to Treaty’. Your 100 day plan does not involve repealing the act – how long will you allow the truth telling enquiry to continue?

33 – (Tim Arvier – 9 News) Premier, on the Pioneer-Burdekin Dam, can you confirm you will have to borrow to build that dam?

40 – (Harry Clarke – Sky News Australia) Mr Crisafulli, do you accept Queensland Police data indicating decreases in crime this year, and data from Queensland Health indicating decreases in hospital ambulance ramping?
