When the hip flexors become overly tight, often as the result of sitting too much, they limit range-of-motion of the hip joint which could place additional stress on the low back.
Reduce low back discomfort and improve hip mobility with this hip flexor stretch
Press down on top of thigh for 20-30 sec
Have client lift knee up at 40-50% max effort for 4-6 sec
Repeat stretch for as many times as needed
Contracting a muscle from a lengthened position allows it to move to a new range-of-motion when relaxed, doing this 3-4 times can reduce overall muscle tightness which improves joint mobility.
