The 93rd Annual Waa-Mu show, Taken Away: A Musical Trilogy, is a unique presentation of three original short-form musicals, connected by the theme of loss and the poignant exploration of something being taken away.

The Art of the Heist is a supernatural tale that follows an artist who must steal back the last portrait of her late lover. Stolen Thunder reimagines a Greek myth, portraying an epic struggle for power between Zeus and Athena. In A Bird’s Song, you’ll be transported to a whimsical forest-surrounded town outside reality where melodies have transformational consequences.

The Waa-Mu Show is undergoing a transformative shift in its approach to its creative development and faculty mentorship. Under the guidance of Professors Tommy Rapley and Ryan T. Nelson, the Waa-Mu student writers and ensemble cast have collaboratively shaped an emotionally resonant and visually spectacular production that will captivate audiences with its multifaceted exploration of loss and resilience.

Now in its 93rd year, the Waa-Mu Show, Northwestern’s oldest theatrical tradition, provides undergraduates with an unparalleled education in new musical theatre development. More than 100 students participate yearly as producers, writers, and performers in creating an original musical that inspires audiences, challenges the artists involved, and engages the surrounding communities.
