In those ancient days, the region, known as "Jibonkhali," witnessed the establishment of Mahishadal Raj Bari under the visionary leadership of Janardhan Upadhya, a highly esteemed figure in Emperor Akbar's army.

Raja Janardhan Upadhya laid the foundation, passing the baton of legacy through generations to Raja Duryodhan Upadhya, Raja Ramsharan Upadhya, Raja Rajaram Upadhya, and Raja Shukh Lal Upadhya. The saga continued with Raja Anadalal Upadhya until his demise, after which Rani Janaki Devi assumed the mantle of leadership over the Mahishadal Estate from 1770 to 1804.

During her reign, Rani Janaki Devi left an indelible mark on the landscape by constructing significant temples, including the iconic Madan Gopal Jew Temple. Alongside, she also contributed to the establishment of Ram Jew Temple, Dadhibaman Jew, and Janakinath Temple in Nandigram. The year 1774 witnessed the inception of Madan Gopal Temple, becoming the focal point for the renowned Rathjatra festival that commenced in 1776. This festival stands as one of Bengal's most celebrated events, echoing the grandeur of the age-old Durga Puja at Mahishadal Rajbari.

The royal lineage continued through Rani Janaki Devi's daughter, Rani Manthara Devi, eventually passing on to her son, Raja Guru Prasad Garga, and extending to the present with Sankar Prasad Garga and Hara Prasad Garga.
