The atmosphere was palpable as, in the early hours of the morning just before sunrise, the soles of our shoes touched Mongolian soil for the first time in Ulaanbaatar. Ahead is three weeks at the ends of the Earth. The first challenge is a 1890 kilometer drive west to the Altai Mountains, which in itself is an adventure in an unfamiliar land. How will the journey through the steppes of Mongolia unfold?
