It was a panicked emergency evacuation from a greatly swollen river that was about to send our little community into a devastating flash flood.
As Hurricane Helene was approaching Western NC was already in a heavy rain fall from an approaching cold front saturating the mountains.
The hurricane was going to make a bad situation extremely dangerous.
It's been said this is the worst flood in the Smoky Mountains in over 200 years.
