A senior Russian commander announced that Russian troops have retaken two villages in Russia's western Kursk Region following Ukraine’s surprise incursion last month. In early August, Ukraine launched the largest cross-border attack on Russia since World War II, using drones and heavy weaponry to breach the border. The two recaptured villages are located about 15 km from the previous front lines set by Ukrainian forces. This advancement may give Russian forces a strategic foothold to target Sverdlikovo, which Ukraine has been using as a logistical hub. To discuss the developing military situation in Kursk, I'm now joined by Frank Ledwidge, senior war studies lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.
