We Visited One of the Most Unique Places in the World

Trunyan Village is a traditional Balinese village located on the eastern shore of Lake Batur in the Kintamani district of Bali, Indonesia. It is known for its unique and ancient funerary practices, which set it apart from other regions of Bali and make it a point of interest for cultural tourism.

Unique Funerary Practices
Outdoor Graves: Unlike the typical Balinese cremation ceremonies, the people of Trunyan follow a unique funerary tradition where the deceased are placed in bamboo cages called "ancak saji" under a large banyan tree. The bodies are exposed but are neither buried nor cremated.

Taru Menyan Tree: The banyan tree, locally known as Taru Menyan (meaning "tree of pleasant scent"), is said to have a natural fragrance that masks the smell of decomposing bodies. This tree is central to the village's funerary practices and beliefs.

Bone Arrangement: After the bodies decompose, the bones are collected and placed in a designated area, creating a somewhat eerie but fascinating display of skeletal human remains.
