The final opus published from Edward MacDowell. The 'New England Idyls' easily can be said that this shows his late style. MacDowell's productivity diminished around 1902, with his last publicized works being for the piano. In 1904, he resigned his position at Columbia University. Mainly from the new director's position in music, where he argued over the music education of the university. He also was mentally exhausted from the publicity he got. Even around the same time, he was ran off by a cab. Towards the end, his wife Marian described his mental state as "a child's life". He spent his final years slowly detierating mentally and physically. He died in New York City in 1908, at 47 years old.
