Blastocystosis is the parasitosis caused by Blastocystis spp. The infection is contracted through cysts from the feces of an infected organism. The parasite has several subtypes that can concomitantly infect humans, causing significant gastrointestinal symptoms. The treatment eradicates the parasite and improves the clinical picture.
