✝️Thursday -📖 2 Kings 16-17✨ *Summary:

2 Kings Chapter 15
▪️Reign of Azariah (Uzziah): Azariah, son of Amaziah, becomes king of Judah. He reigns for 52 years and generally follows his father's righteous path, but fails to remove the high places. As punishment, he contracts leprosy and is isolated from the people.
▪️Turbulent times in Israel: The Northern Kingdom experiences rapid succession of kings. Zachariah, son of Jeroboam II, reigns for only six months before being assassinated by Shallum. Shallum, in turn, is killed by Menahem.

2 Kings Chapter 16
▪️Reign of Menahem: Menahem becomes king of Israel through violence and oppression. He pays tribute to the Assyrians to secure his throne.
▪️Reign of Pekahiah: Pekahiah, Menahem's son, succeeds him as king of Israel.
▪️Assyrian Invasion: Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, invades Israel and captures several cities, including those in the region of Naphtali.

Key take aways, both chapters highlight the decline of both kingdoms, Judah and Israel. Judah, while having a righteous king in Azariah, still struggles with idolatry. Israel is in a state of constant turmoil with rapid succession of kings and increasing external threats, particularly from Assyria.

▪️Azariah's leprosy as a divine judgment
▪️Rapid succession of kings in Israel
▪️Growing Assyrian threat to Israel
▪️Continued idolatry in Judah
