People of diverse cultures, for millennia, have used the mathematical mind to solve problems and meet their needs. This presentation will focus on how to make math meaningful through the pedagogy of Ethnomathematics. It will address questions like: How can we design a culturally sustaining math space by using culturally relevant practices? How can we cultivate a mathematical identity so that students see themselves as mathematicians? How can we teach the value of math as both an abstract concept as well as a useful everyday tool that can help solve problems affecting our communities?
