With SMU's addition into the ACC this season, we've seen yet another team make the jump from the Group of 5 ranks into the ranks of the power conferences. Given, there is one less power conference with the collapse of the Pac-12, but the idea of Group of 5 teams making that jump has been of interest since the Big 12's flirtation with multiple Group of 5 schools long before Oklahoma and Texas' exit was announced in 2020.

Much has been said about the rebuilding of the Pac-12 as a "Best of the Rest" Conference, and there have been conversations about the ACC collapsing and being raided by the Big 10, SEC, and Big 12. If those situations occur, what are the best remaining Group of 5 schools that these conferences could use to rebuild?

I sought to look out who the best remaining Group of 5 schools are for power conference expansion---and I failed! There are so many holes in my research and methodology that it's harder to see where it works than where it doesn't.
