So the day of Mont Saint Michel is here! As we set off from our Airbnb we soon saw the silhouette of the monument in the hazy distant skyline. It seemed to hover there, gradually getting closer, as we made our way along another superb stretch of Eurovelo 4. I thought it looked amazing from the pictures I’d seen and was one of the reasons, I’d chose to plan this route. But nothing can prepare you for being able to ride up to it and see it in person. It is simply incredible. We had seen a few pro teams on our way to the causeway. But just assumed it was training rides for the upcoming Tour de France. But as we sat and had a great lunch in the shadow of the monument, little did we know of the obstacle in our way, getting out from Mont Saint Michel. We didn’t realise it at the time, but the French had planned their National championships on our route, meaning we had a diversion to get around and back on course for Coutainville on the mouth of the river Seine. Which would be our next camping destination.
