The construction of two railway lines in the western region is progressing smoothly. Due to the presence of the second line only up to a few areas in this region, the passengers are facing dire situations. In this background, the central government has already waved the green flag for the construction of the second railway line between Guntur and Guntakal. Work is being done to expand it, part of which, the dubbing work already undertaken between Giddalur disembarking stations has reached the final stage. Railway engineering officials are working with contractors even at night.
Construction of station rooms for advanced signal system along with new booking counter at Digumetta railway station has been completed.Digumetta and Giddalur railway stations are going to start.It is expected that the doubling works between these Digo Metta Gajulapalli railway stations will be slow. The line is to be done as it is within the abhayaran area, the forest department officials have sent proposals for stage two permissions, clearance is yet to be obtained and the work of double nine from Gajulapalli to Nandyala is already underway.
The railway line will connect the hinterland through the districts of Guntur Prakasam Palnadu Nandyala Kurnool one of the key projects undertaken by the South Central Railway Guntur Guntakal Railway project dubbing and electrification work is going on Kurnool Bethancherla Bugginapalli Central Railway Department has recently started the second railway train track specially the 11 km dubbing and diversification work between Guntakal and Boggenapalli. The Guntur Guntakal project started in 2016-17 is spread over 4005 km and the estimated cost is 387 crore rupees. So far 200 km between Nallapadu Giddalur and 107 km between Bethancherla Bugganapally and an additional 6 km between Betancherla Bugganapalli, total 31 km dubbing works have been completed. Sources of the commission say that it has been done

Also doubling of this section will increase the overall train handling capacity in Guntur Vijayawada area.There is possibility to divert more trains through Guntur to reduce train traffic.It will also be useful for freight transportation especially if Guntur Guntakal railway line is completed by utilizing the potential of mineral rich Palnadu region to transport goods across the country. However, railway officials believe that there will be easy connectivity from south to coastal areas to western region and Rayalaseema region.
