గోవా విముక్తి ఓ వీరగాథ


గోవా విలీనం పోర్చుగీసు వారి ఆధ్వర్యంలో ఉన్న గోవా, డయ్యు, డామన్ స్వతంత్ర భారతదేశంలో కలపడానికి భారత సైన్యం డిసెంబరు, 1961లో చేపట్టిన సైనిక చర్య. దీన్నే గోవా విముక్తి, గోవాపై సైనిక చర్య అని కూడా వ్యవహరిస్తారు. ఈ సాయుధ దళ చర్యకు భారత సైన్యం ఆపరేషన్ విజయ్ అని పేరు పెట్టింది. ఈ ఆపరేషన్ లో భాగంగా 36 గంటలపాటు భారత నావికా దళాలు, వాయుసేనలు, పదాతి దళాలు గోవాను ముట్టడించి పోర్చుగీసు వారి నుంచి భారత భూభాగంలోని గోవాను విడుదల చేశాయి. దీంతో ఆ ప్రాంతాన్ని 450 ఏళ్ళ నుంచి పరిపాలిస్తున్న పోర్చుగీసు వారి పాలన అంతమైంది. ఇందులో 22 మంది భారతీయులు, 30 మంది పోర్చుగీసువారు మరణించారు.స్వల్పకాలం పాటు జరిగిన ఈ యుద్ధ పరిణామానికి ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా మిశ్రమ స్పందనలు వచ్చాయి. భారతదేశంలో దీన్ని చారిత్రకంగా భారత ఉపఖండానికి చెందిన భూభాగాన్ని వలస దేశస్తుల నుంచి విడిపించిన విముక్తిపోరాటంగా భావించారు. పోర్చుగల్ మాత్రం తమ గడ్డ మీద, తమ పౌరుల మీద భారత ప్రభుత్వం జరిపిన దాడిగా అభివర్ణించుకున్నారు.




The Annexation of Goa was the process in which the Republic of India annexed Estado da Índia, the then Portuguese Indian territories of Goa, Daman and Diu, starting with the armed action carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in December 1961. In India, this action is referred to as the "Liberation of Goa". In Portugal, it is referred to as the "Invasion of Goa". Jawaharlal Nehru had hoped that the popular movement in Goa and the pressure of world public opinion would force the Portuguese Goan authorities to grant it independence but since it did not have any effect, he decided to take it by force.

The "armed action" was code named Operation Vijay (meaning "Victory" in Sanskrit) by the Indian Armed Forces. It involved air, sea and land strikes for over 36 hours, and was a decisive victory for India, ending 451 years of rule by Portugal over its remaining exclaves in India. The engagement lasted two days, and twenty-two Indians and thirty Portuguese were killed in the fighting. The brief conflict drew a mixture of worldwide praise and condemnation. In India, the action was seen as a liberation of historically Indian territory, while Portugal viewed it as an aggression against its national soil and citizens.

Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Kunhiraman Palat Candeth as lieutenant governor.[6] On 8 June 1962, military rule was replaced by civilian government when the Lieutenant Governor nominated an informal Consultative Council of 29 nominated members to assist him in the administration of the territory.
