Optical fibers are used to carry information from one place to another. They are considered as one of the fastest means to transfer information. But even after being so efficient, there are some losses that occur in optical fibers. These are :
- Absorption losses
- Scattering losses
- Dispersion losses
- Radiative losses
- Coupling losses.

In today’s video, we will discuss absorption losses and scattering losses.
In absorption loss, the atoms present use to make the optical fiber, absorb the photons, causing loss of signal. Whereas, in scattering loss the signal is scattered inside the optical fiber, again causing a loss in signal strength.

Dispersion losses, Radiative losses, and coupling losses will be discussed in our upcoming videos.
