Haystacks is one of Alfred Wainwrights favourite walks and it will probably become one of yours too..!! It takes in some absolutely breath taking views down onto Buttermere and up towards the coast of Scotland.

This particular route starts off from Gatesgarth farm and takes us along the southern edge of Buttermere lake and up through Scarth Gap Pass and onto the summit of Haystacks. It then descends down back to Gatesgarth farm via Innominate Tarn and Warnscale pathway.

Approximate distance of walk is 7.5kms and should take around 3 to 5 hours to complete.

The ascent up to the summit is via a well marked out pathway however there is a little bit of hands on scrambling required near the top. Care should also be taken while descending down Warnscale as there are lots of loose sections of rock and shale underfoot with can get very slippery in wet conditions.

Total height gain is around 507m with Haystacks topping out at 597m

I do hope you enjoy the video and that you have an absolutely wonderful and safe time on this route.

Thanks for watching

Mike
