The next genetation beatmania deluxe version. Controlled with 7-keys and a turntable. The 1st game of beatmania IIDX series, released in 1999. This game and series are the ONLY ONE GAME and SERIES that have the name "beatmania" in recent. Contains more powerful effects, real-like BGAs, more difficult levels; different from original beatmania series.

This game runs on Konami BEMANI TWINKLE Hardware.

- Trivia -
At original 5-keys beatmania series, there are 5-keys at the left side of each player panel, and turntable at the right side of the panel. Those can be found at beatmania III series. However, at beatmania IIDX, there is a turntable at the LEFT side of the player 1 side. It means, at player 1 side, controllers are set in reversed position.
At first, there are also 5-keys levels to make players get accustomed to 7-keys. There are also light-7keys levels in other IIDX games.

TWINKLE Hardware is based on PlayStation1, but additional function and effects were added. So, CS version of beatmania IIDX were released for PlayStation2. CS versions were released until 16 EMPRESS. However, after that, there were NO MORE CS versions until beatmania IIDX INFINITAS was released in 2015(old version. New version was released in 2020).
TWINKLE Hardware uses VCD for BGA storage. However, if the VCD player were broken, or there is a problem with VCD, players can't be able to see BGA. Although VCD player works properly, BGA and song often mismatch. For example, the song is 5.1.1., however, BGA is for 20,november.

At first, the name of this game was "beatmania II." IF this game runs on SD machine, it will be called "beatmania II," and runs on DX machine, "beatmania IIDX(DELUXE)." There is ONLY ONE SD machine for beatmania II-you can find that machine at World Game Circus, located in Japan.

At MAME 0.239 version, the BGA still doesn't work.

beatmania IIDX (c) 1999 코나미.

5키 beatmania 시리즈로부터의 파생작. 7키와 턴테이블을 사용. 코나미 사운드 시뮬레이션 게임 브랜드인 BEMANI의 수장 자리에 있는 작품이자, beatmania 이름을 달고 가동 중인 유일한 작품. 5키 beatmania는 이미 2002년에 더 파이널을 끝으로 시리즈가 종결. beatmania III 또한 더 파이널을 발매하고 같이 종결.
5키 beatmania에서 하지 못했던 것들을 한다는 계획으로, 다양한 이펙터 효과, 실사를 사용한 BGA, 더 어려워진 난이도의 곡 등 차별화된 모습을 보여준 작품. beatmania III가 5키 시스템을 충실하게 따라갔다는 점과 비교하면, beatmania IIDX(이하 IIDX)는 IIDX만의 차별성을 강조했다고 볼 수 있다.
다만, 초기 작품들의 경우에는 5키에서 넘어오는 유저들을 위해, 5키 beatmania의 수록곡을 그대로 가져오기도 하고, 채보도 그대로 유지하는 등의 모습을 보여주었다.

- 이야깃거리 -
턴테이블이 오른쪽에만 배치되어 있는 5키 beatmania와 beatmania III와는 달리, IIDX는 1P는 왼쪽, 2P는 오른쪽에 턴테이블이 배치되어 있다. 또한 2P 사이드에서의 싱글 플레이 또한 지원.

사용된 기판인 TWINKLE 기판은 플레이스테이션1(이하 플스1)을 커스터마이즈한 기판으로, 그 스펙이 오리지널 플스1에 비해 높아졌기 때문에 플스1로 이식되지 않았다. 대신 플레이스테이션2(이하 플스2)에 맞춰 가정용으로 발매. 이는 16 EMPRESS까지 지속되었으나, 이후 작품들은 가정용으로 한동안 이식되지 않았다. 가정용으로 다시 발매가 이루어지기 시작한 것은 PC 버전(코나스테)으로 beatmania IIDX INFINITAS가 발매되면서부터.

TWINKLE 기판은 기판의 구조가 제법 복잡한 편. 특히 BGA와 관련해서는 당시 사용되던 VCD를 저장 매체로 사용. 그런데 이 VCD를 읽는데 있어 고장이 자주 발생했다고 한다. 디스크가 제대로 들어 있어도 알고리즘이 꼬여 곡과 다른 BGA가 출력되는 일이 많았고, 디스크 자체가 고장이 나거나, VCD 플레이어 자체가 고장이 나는 일도 많았다고 한다. 때문에 TWINKLE 기판이 실물로 남아 있다고 해도 BGA가 제대로 작동하는 경우를 보기는 어렵다. 만일 VCD 플레이어 자체가 고장이 났다면 BGA는 나오지 않고 BGA에 덧대는 식으로 출력되는 레이어만 확인 가능.

본래 IIDX는 beatmania II라는 명칭으로 개발이 진행되었다. 여타 아케이드 게임들과 마찬가지로 기체 또한 2가지 버전으로 나누어 가동될 예정이기도 했다. 소형 기체(SD)에서 가동되면 beatmania II, 대형 기체(DX)에서 가동되면 beatmania IIDX로 불릴 예정이었던 것. 이 흔적은 구작들에서 제법 찾아볼 수 있는데, TM 표시가 II 밑에 표기되어 있다는 것, 그리고 일부 악곡들의 부제인 for beatmania II에서 확인 가능. 그러나 소형 기체의 발매는 취소되고 대형 기체로만 발매가 이루어져 결국 beatmania IIDX라는 이름이 남게 되었다.
소형 기체는 전 세계에 딱 한 대만이 남아 있는데, 2020년대 현재 일본의 World Game Circus에서 가동되고 있다. 해당 기체는 1999년 국내의 게임 전시회에 들어와서 이곳저곳을 돌아다니며 가동되었던 적이 있다. 때문에 해당 기체에는 beatmania IIDX가 적혀 있지 않고, beatstage II 명칭으로 적혀 있다. 국내에서는 당시 beatmania가 정발될 때 beatstage라는 이름으로 개명되었기 때문.

- 메모 -
0.239 버전 기준 MAME에서는 BGA가 지원되지 않습니다. BGA를 덮는 형태로 출력되는 그래픽 레이어(미스 레이어 포함)만 확인할 수 있습니다. 간혹 HDD 에러가 발생해 게임이 멈추는 경우도 있지만, 그런 것을 제외하면 플레이 자체는 가능합니다.
단, 초대작은 별도로 DVD 에러를 통과하기 위한 치트를 사용하지 않으면 게임을 플레이할 수 없습니다. 아래의 링크를 눌러서 치트 파일을 받아가시기 바랍니다. 받으신 후에는 별도로 마메 디렉토리 내에 cheat 이름의 폴더를 만들고, 그 안에 치트 파일을 넣으십시오.
