What’s a successful agricultural venture, and a promising technical advancement at that, if not Julien Bousiquier’s organic rabbit farm? Julien set up shop as a farmer only a bit over a year ago, but he’s already inundated with orders. And this even though the media climate in France is far from being favourable to breeders of meat rabbits at this moment: Animal rights activists have recently published two videos denouncing the conditions of rabbit farming in the country. Still, Julien has made animal welfare his priority. On his farm in the French Limousin region, he’s developed an innovative system of moveable hutches and takes pride in producing everything his rabbits eat directly on the farm. It’s no exaggeration to say his brand name may be taken at face value: Lapins des Prés = “Rabbits out on Pasture”.
