A sprawling garden situated in the heart of the city with tropical plants and sub-tropical plants, including trees that are several centuries old, makes Lalbaugh is one of Bangaluru's major attractions. Exhibits like the Snow White and the seven dwarfs, and a topiary park, an expansive lake, a beautiful glasshouse modelled around the Crystal Palace in London adorn the park giving it a surrealistic atmosphere. A watchtower perched on top of a 3000 million years old rocky outcrop (which is a National Geological Monument), built by Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru also adorns the picturesque garden.

I'm so glad to be in the city at this time of the year to catch the biannual, 10-day flower show at the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. A paradise for nature lovers like myself.

Ticket Price: Adults= Rs 80, Kids= Rs 30
The theme this year for the flower show is Basavanna or Basaveswara, a 12th century Bhakti poet and philosopher, and one of the most prominent names in Kannada literature.

A floral replica of the Anubhava Mantapa is one of the highlights. The Mantapa, set up in the 12th century by the poet, was a parliament of philosophers, saints, poets and thinkers with no restriction on gender, social background, or caste.

In the glass house alone, a total of 13.5 lakh cut flowers and 9 lakh potted flowering plants are used to create the arrangements depicting the theme.
