Em Deacon, is a wife and mother to a 2-year-old girl who lives in London. After qualifying as a medical doctor in 2013 Em spent 2 years working as a medical and surgical doctor. Her interest in mental health later saw her practicing as a mental health doctor for a further 4 years
In December 2018 she received the news every woman dreads. She was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She was informed that the average survival for people with her diagnosis was 3 years.
She gave up her title as a Doctor; and while she no longer treats disease she now helps others to develop the skills needed to nurture their mind, body and self.
Cancer can reshape many aspects of a person’s life. In this 4-part interview series Em shares the intimate moments that lead to her diagnosis, she opens up about the effect cancer has on her marriage, her fear of leaving behind her daughter and her holistic approach to fighting cancer and developing a positive mindset.
Em is beating the odds and challenges us to take on a holistic view to living, healing and healthcare. Although she is considered a palliative care patient Em continues to make every day count as she undergoes treatment.
