Before Gareth Southgate was appointed England manager in 2016, England had the worst penalty record of any major national team in the world, having won just one of the seven penalty shootouts - 14.2% - they had been involved in at the UEFA Euros and the FIFA World Cup.
With victory against Switzerland via a shootout in the quarter finals of UEFA Euro 2024, England have now won three of their four penalty shootouts - 75% - since Southgate's appointment.
In this video, HITC Sevens takes a closer look at that radical transformation, the reasons behind it, and both the importance, psychology, and technique of penalties more broadly.
