If you know the area of a square, you can find its perimeter in two steps: first, find the side length, then use the side length to find the total distance around the outside of the square.

I'll go through both steps in detail, and I'll be sure to explain all the reasoning behind them. I'll also make sure you understand the meaning of the word perimeter, which is easy for some students but tricky for others.
