The Optical Metalography of Bainite and Martensite always poses a challenge for the metallurgist in the field of failure analysis especially in the automotive industry. Even though Bainite and martensite have very good mechanical properties,the design requirements for different automotive components with respect to property and microstructure are different.
Moreover upper bainite is rarely used since it does not contribute to toughness appreciably. Hence in this video a clear understanding of the microstructures are illustrated schematically.
This will also be useful for students preparing for Gate exam and PSU's exam.
