Choreographing the complex life of Gandhi is a big challenge. His path breaking struggle to attain freedom was not a mere political one; but he metamorphosed the street fighting against British as an extraordinary quest of spiritual humanity. His life was an experiment with truth and his weapon to counter the mightiest was nonviolence. He had the rare ability to mobilize millions to come and protest without using violence. In a choreographic presentation we are knitting Gandhi’s life as a poetic appliqué where his ideas and philosophy of life are being showcased through music & dance. His ideas of truth, nonviolence, Swadeshi, Swaraj and self realization are taken as metaphors and the whole choreography flows like many images in a single poetry. Gandhi’s struggle from South Africa to Indian freedom struggle is quite a long journey and in this choreography we use historical events symbolizing turning points in the life of a nation. Somehow, it’s not a biographical description of Gandhi’s pioneering struggle; in fact, this is more about how Gandhi is more relevant to our time and our lives. He is not simply a political leader from the history; rather he is more an idea who lives forever to redeem the darker side of humanity. His political message of love, truth and nonviolence is ever refreshing and panacea for peace.
For this production, we have taken verses from poems by famous poets like Narsi Meheto, Sumitra Nandan Pant, Harivanshrai Bachchan, and acclaimed Odia poet Radhamohan Garnaik.
