FORSAKE FOOLISHNESS | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (August 18, 2024)

Today is the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and the gospel continues to present to us Jesus’s discourse on the bread of life.

Jesus’s listeners, at the time, could not make sense of his proclamation: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats his bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

This confused many of Jesus’s listeners—for how could he give them his flesh to eat? But we know, brothers and sisters, that Jesus’s claim would only become clearer and the supper that anticipated the offering of his body and blood on the cross.

Believing in Jesus’s word eating his flesh and drinking his blood may sound foolish we pray for the grace of spiritual wisdom so that we whole heartedly welcome Jesus in our lives.
