Friendj's from Chios is a new age tourism music project. Our goal is to create an alternative guided tour of our island Chios located in North Aegean, Greece. First stop Avgonyma, a village of the central Chios, at a distance of 16 km from Chios city centre to the west.
The name of the village refers to the local poor, non-fertile fields. The village is very old, probably pre-medieval. Jeronimo Justiniani described the village as a well protected castle. According to the legend,it had been destroyed by pirates.
Travelers have referred to the village as an area which is characterized by the scarcity of water, through ironic verses about Avgonyma:
''Avgonyma is a good village but has a flaw by the time they bring the water, the pot has been burnt!''
This fact is a proof to yet another reason for the choice of the creation of the residences, according to the defensive needs of the village, not the fertility of the soil or the existence of water springs etc.
In the past (19th century), the residents used to work as hucksters, moving merchants of the time, travelling to the northern villages on the back of their mules.
When the village was connected to the others via roads, most of the villagers worked as coal makers, a job tha even women could do.
At Easter, there is a big fire on the square outside St. George's church. The villagers form groups to cut pine branches and burn Judas on the top of the fire.
Nowadays the local residents are no more than 20 number which increases during summertime.

To ''Friendj's from Chios'' είναι ένα νέο πρωτότυπο για τα ελληνικά δεδομένα μουσικό project ξενάγησης.
Στόχος μας να σας ξεναγήσουμε στο νησί μας τη Χίο αναδεικνύοντας μέσα από τα βίντεο μας τις ομορφιές του. Πρώτος μας σταθμός τα Αυγώνυμα, χωριό της κεντρικής Χίου, απέχει από τη Χώρα 16 χλμ και βρίσκεται στα δυτικά της Χίου.
Η ερμηνεία της ονομασίας του χωριού είναι φθηνά μη γόνιμα κτήματα.
Το χωριό είναι παλαιότατο, προμεσαιωνικό ίσως. Ο Ιερώνυμος Ιουστινιάνης μνημονεύει τα Αυγώνυμα ως φρούριο οχυρωμένο. Κατά την παράδοση το χωριό κατεστράφη από τους πειρατές.
Η λειψυδρία που βασάνιζε το χωριό και τους κατοίκους του, γράφεται ως η μόνη περιγραφή περιηγητών για τ'Αυγώνυμα με το χαρακτηριστικό ειρωνικό στίχο (που μέχρι και σήμερα λέγεται):
Τα' Αυγώνυμα ν' καλό χωριό μα΄ χουν ένα ψεγάδι
ώσπου να βάλουν το νερό καίγεται το τσουκάλι.
Το γεγονός αυτό είναι ακόμα μία ένδειξη για την επιλογή των θέσεων των οικισμών σύμφωνα με τις ανάγκες άμυνας του νησιού και όχι αναλόγως της γονιμότητας της γης ή την ύπαρξη πηγών κ.λ.π.
Τα παλιά χρόνια (19ος αιώνας) οι Αυγωνυμούσοι ήταν πράτες, μεταπράτες, έμποροι της εποχής, πηγαίνοντας με τα μουλάρια στα βορειόχωρα.
Όταν το χωριό απέκτησε οδικό δίκτυο, οι περισσότεροι Αυγωνυμούσοι έγιναν καρβουνιάρηδες, τέχνη που ήξεραν ακόμα και οι γυναίκες.
Την Ανάσταση στην πλατεία έξω από το εκκλησία του Αγ. Γεωργίου ανάβει φωτιά μετά από ομαδική κοπή πευκόξυλων και καίνε τον Ιούδα.
Οι μόνιμοι κάτοικοι του χωριού είναι σχεδόν 20 αριθμός που αυξάνεται τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες.
