"But I'll still sing you love songs, written in the letters of your name."

In this lesson we look at one of my favorite Bobby tunes, "Looks Like Rain". The song was first recorded on Weir's 1972 solo album "Ace", but that version sounds far different than what the song ended up evolving into over the years. In this lesson, we'll focus on the later versions of this song.

This lesson is a great example of how Bob Weir approaches rhythm guitar playing, and you will learn many of the chord voicings that crop up in his playing all the time. If you're familiar with all the CAGED System's chord shapes, then this lesson is a great review and shows you some creative ways in which to employ these voicings. However, if a lot of these chord shapes are new to you, this is a good time to start working on them and get them under your fingers and into your playing. Learning the CAGED shapes of all your chords is not only great for rhythm playing, but also very useful for learning and visualizing the fretboard. If you've watched any of my Jerry Garcia solo lessons, you'll know that Garcia approached much of his lead playing from chord shapes a la the CAGED system.

Take your time with this lesson, and work on playing all of these chord voicings as clean as possible, as well as quickly moving between the shapes. There is a ton to glean from this song, not to mention, it's a lot of fun to play.
