The village of Tyneham in Dorset had been owned by Major General Mark Bond's family for 300 years. In 1943 his father received notification from the War Office of a compulsory evacuation order taking the village for training troops ready for the D-Day landings. They were promised that the village would be returned at the close of the war. This was never to be and Tyneham fell into ruin.
In this interview Maj Gen Bond talks about his memories of Tyneham and the events surrounding the evacuation and the decades that followed.

Recorded in his 91st year, this is an historic document with the last remaining person to have lived in the village.
The interview was recorded 20th August 2013 with Vince Jones for Tyneham: No Small Sacrifice
