Honda Fireblade CBR900RR Review | Riding my Project Bike | 006

In this episode, I give a review of my 1996 Honda Fireblade CBR900RR SC33 project bike.

I have taken a lot of footage over the first 300 miles or so of riding this bike. Unfortunately there always seemed to be something wrong with what I had taken. Mostly the sound recording, having a lot of clicking, I am now onto my 4th microphone! But also the camera being on the wrong settings, pointing the wrong way or the weather was crap!

At last I have something that I can share. I have really enjoyed riding this old Fireblade so far. I would go so far as to say I love this bike!

I had an Aprillia RSV 3 or 4 years ago, and a Triumph 955i Daytona 3 years before that but I had forgotten the thrill of riding a sports bike. I had convinced myself they were too uncomfortable, or my recollection of the RSV Mille had left me with that. Although it was the sexiest bike I think I have ever owned, maybe I was a little bigger than I am now, so it might not be its fault.

As I mention in the video, the footrests on the Honda Fireblade are a little high for me in my old age, so you have to concentrate on getting your feet on to them. I also have an issue with being able to look over my shoulder, especially at junctions because the bars are so low. But when you are in full flight it is glorious to ride.

My regular pillion feels that the seat is the most comfortable that she has been on for a while. My most recent modern bike was a Triumph Sprint 1050 so that is quite an interesting observation as the Sprint should be winning that competition hands down. But she is only a slip of a thing, 5ft and 8 stone or so, I don’t think my son finds it as good :)

I may have a look at adjusting or moving the footrests and maybe look for slightly higher bars to make the bike more comfortable for me. But I am happy riding it as it is at the moment, I’ll leave that till the weather gets too bad to ride. We’ll see!
