Orlec is a village on the Croatian island of Cres, which administratively belongs to the city of Cres; it belongs to the Primorje-Gorski County. It is about 2 km from the main road Cres-Osor, near the turnoff to Valun. Today, Orlec is the largest populated village on Cres. It is said to have been named after the eagles, or rather vultures (gyps fulvus), which can be seen in the northern, hilly areas of Cres.Unbelievable Beach Scenes Around the World: Mali Bok, Croatia WOW!Orlec.

In the past, the inhabitants of the village were mostly engaged in sheep farming. Today, many areas around Orlec are overgrown with maquis, which overgrows many shepherds' stables, as well as distant churches: St. Ivan, St. Michael and St. Šimun, built between the 12th and 13th centuries. Before it developed into a village, Orlec was also the location of a handful of shepherds' dwellings. The houses are built next to the karst sinkhole. In the village stands the parish church of St. Anton (Anton Puščavnik) from the 16th century. The church was expanded in the 18th century, and received its final appearance between 1909 and 1911. The wall paintings are the work of Slovenian painter Tone Kralj (1957/58). Above the altar is the Adoration of the Shepherds. The bearers of gifts and worshipers are in national costumes and have portrait features. Altar of St. Anthony was brought to the church from the Franciscan church in Cres at the beginning of the 18th century. A secular attraction of the church is the Latin inscription in the corner of the outer wall: "Homo, noli hic mingere nec immundari" (Man, do not perform any need here, neither small nor great).

In Orlec, the custom of dressing in a typical national costume, which once differed from village to village, has been preserved. In the Cres-Lošinj area, it has been preserved for the longest time only in Nerezine and on the island of Susak. 16

The sea in colors from blue to dark blue and turquoise, pebbly and rocky beaches, city beaches and hidden coves, cool shade under the pine trees, a promenade along the coast, a lot of culinary pleasures with seafood specialties and the famous Cres lamb, and a variety of sports activities, or opportunities for exercise. This is the island of Cres.
The island of Cres offers simply everything I want, during the tourist season or outside it. I've been researching it for quite a few years now, and when I think I've gotten to know it well, I realize that there's still a lot undiscovered... and that's why I'm drawn to it again and again.
When I go to Cres, I decide between two routes: either to use the ferry port of Brestova on the mainland or Valbiska on the island of Krk.
If I want a more adrenaline-filled start to my vacation by driving around Cres, I choose the Brestovo ferry port, from where I can get to Porozine on Cres. The route first climbs to the top of Cres, and then follows a narrower, older road along the slopes of Cres and along the steep banks until the turnoff to the village of Beli, where the road widens and is quite pleasant. The flavors of the ice cream are Krašev: with the flavors of griotta, bajadera or jaffa bourboncica, they really play.
If I want a more "easy" option, with most of my driving on the highway, or rather on wider roads, I drive over the Krško bridge and then along the island of Krk to the ferry port of Valbiska and continue with the ferry to Merago on Cres.
We are now on Cres. It is right to say first that Cres is the largest (405.70 square kilometers) and longest (66 km) Croatian island and is located in the north of the Adriatic in the Kvarner Gulf. Only the latest measurements from 2006 showed that it is slightly larger (405.70 km²) than Krk (405.22 km²). Administratively, it belongs to Primorje-Gorski County. Cres was once connected to Lošinj by a narrow strip of land, but today the islands of Cres and Lošinj are connected by a small bridge in Osor. The freshwater lake Vrana is located on the island. The highest peaks form the mountain ridge in the northern part of the island: Gorice (648 meters above sea level), Sis (638 meters above sea level) and Orlinj (601 meters above sea level).
The historical information provided by Wikipedia for Cres is as follows: the oldest human settlements found on the island of Cres date back to the period after the second ice age, when the sea level was about 96 m lower than today. The island was connected to the mainland of today's Croatia. With the melting of the ice (about 25,000 years ago), the sea began to rise and in this way most of the Croatian islands were formed. The process of sea level rise continues today. Prehistoric settlements from around 12,000 years BC. n. no. were found in many parts of the island, which was also connected to the island of Lošinj in the past. About 2,000 years ago, a canal was built in the town of Osor, which separated the island.
