Dr. Sundar A. Christopher, Professor, Department of Atmospheric and Earth Science at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, provides an overview of satellite remote sensing and the science behind this work. Some of the concepts discussed include spectral signatures, image classification, and spectral/spatial domain image transforms. Dr. Christopher also shows how geophysical products are created from satellite data and why quality control flags are important. Finally, he discusses validation and inter-comparison strategies among satellite, surface, and other datasets.
