The New Acropolis School of Philosophy offers a series of commentaries on the famous GOLDEN VERSES of PYTHAGORAS, or the moral code in force in the legendary Pythagorean school. With teacher Lúcia Helena Galvão.

There are 72 verses that will be commented on in 3 classes, 24 in each class.

SCHEMES USED IN THIS LECTURE:

SUMMARY OF TOPICS (memorizing technique):
1 to 5: Honor: Gods, Oath, Heroes, Earth Spirits, Parents and Family. Importance of honor and oath.
6 to 9: Having a virtuous friend, learning from him, forgiving him, understanding power/need limits.
10 to 12: Vanquishes passions: laziness, gluttony, lust, anger. It develops modesty.
13 to 15: Practice of virtues: self-respect, practicing justice, thinking before acting.
16 to 21: Death and pain: remember death and the instability of conquests. Patience with suffering, but seeking relief. Good ones are spared. Logic of karma: education, not punishment (learning).
22 to 27: Human duality: good and bad things; listen and select with discernment. Refuse falsehoods with gentleness and patience. Having discipline in these rules and not being influenced.

TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS TALK:
01. Honor the immortal gods first, as required by law.
02. Next, revere the oath you took.
03. Then the illustrious heroes, full of goodness and light.
04. Pay homage, then, to the terrestrial spirits and show due respect for them.
05. Then honor your parents and all members of your family.
06. Among others, choose the wisest and most virtuous as a friend.
07. Take advantage of his smooth speeches and learn from his actions that are useful and virtuous.
08. But don't push your friend away for a small mistake.
09. Because power is limited by necessity.
10. Take the following very seriously: you must face and overcome your passions.
11. First gluttony; then laziness, lust, and anger.
12. Do not do with others or alone what makes you ashamed.
13. And above all respect yourself.
14. Practice justice with your actions and with your words.
15. And establishes the habit of never acting thoughtlessly.
16. But he always remembers one fact: that death will come to everyone.
17. And that the good things of the world are uncertain, and as they can be won, so they can be lost.
18. Bear with patience and without murmur your part, whatever it may be.
