Hello and welcome back to the channel. So sorry that it has been so long between videos! We have been settling into a new routine, which we will be making a video on soon to catch you all up!
This video is about our fan upgrade that we made while we were mooch-docking before we left on our travels. The exhaust fans that were in our 2022 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH were the small 4" fans. They just didn't move much air. So we decided to upgrade them with a larger fan that would move more air through the camper. I did some research and found that the Star Vent fan had good reviews and was comparable to the Fantastic Fan, for about half of the price! The air movement in the RV after installation of the new fans was amazing! I did a TP test to show that not only could you feel the difference, you could see it too!
The installation of these fans is pretty simple, but it's very time consuming! The removal of the old lap sealant is the biggest hurdle in this project. I did learn however that the warmer the lap sealant, the easier it is to remove! You can use a hair dryer or a heat gun to soften it but I would like to caution you in using a heat gun. There is the possibility of melting your roof membrane if you get it too hot! It is a rubber roof membrane after all. If you don't mind getting hot on a sunny day then that will be an easy solution and less stuff to pack up onto the roof.
I use a bucket tied to a rope to get things to and from the roof as safely as possible. The new roof vent fans, however wouldn't fit in the bucket so recruit some help to hand it up to you if possible. Always be aware of where you are and take your time while on your RV roof!
