In Doctor Who fandom the idea of recasting is sacrilege and that’s because what each actor has brought to their character is their own unique stamp on the history of a show and it’s just a magic in a bottle that cannot, nay, should not, be replicated. But unfortunately, considering that the show is 60 years old now, the actors for the first three Doctors, Bill Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, respectively, have all passed away. While Troughton and Pertwee were able to continue contributing to the show after leaving, the man who we really didn’t get to see enough of unfortunately was Hartnell’s incarnation. The original, you might say. The man whose success was arguably responsible for the show, yet outside from a single interview and a very… weak cameo… The First Doctor has never been seen again. However I will admit, being the first incarnation, he’s actually arguably the one with the most story reason to reappear and I guess others agreed with me.
