KF airfoils operate (in theory) by trapping a vortex behind the step(s) on the wing. This high-energy region energizes the rest of the flow and helps keep the flow over the top of the wing 'attached' and fairly smooth off to the trailing edge. Now, how does this work in the real world? Let's jump into some basic KFm airfoil aerodynamics.
KF airfoils have captured my interest for some time now. I have used them in numerous RC aircraft and they have all performed very well (much better than you would initially expect!). I look forward to diving deeper into KF airfoils and the aerodynamics behind them in the future, and compare their performance against other conventional airfoils for RC aircraft.
