This is part 1 of scuba4families diving adventure to Sun Island Villa Park (Nalaguaridhoo) in the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives. Join us on this truly incredible bucket list diving family holiday and let us show you the dive sites we visited and the marine life we encountered. South Ari’s reefs, Thilas and channels (kandu) are justifiably famous for their beautiful underwater topography - dramatic overhangs and canyons draped with colourful soft corals are the norm here - along with the abundant and spectacular marine life, including possibilities for some exciting encounters with large pelagic species.

South Ari Atoll is a marine protected area with year-round diving and snorkelling excursions going on which provide excellent sightings of the whale sharks. The area around Sun Island, especially the southern part of its reef is best suited for spotting these gentle giants as the depth ranging between 5 to 10 meters makes it easier.
You can dive all year round at South Ari Atoll, but the best weather and sea conditions are in the first five months of the year (Jan-Apr). In May the weather is usually very good, but this is when the monsoon changes from north-east to south-west. June & July are the wettest months. August to November have reduced visibility but more chance of large filter feeders. December is similar to May, due to the monsoon changing back.
